Welcome to the second Monday update! We have a lot to talk about in this one.
Last week we collected signatures for our club petition and hit our goal in only two days! Along with that, we found an advisor for our club and what days our meetings will be held. We do not yet have a date for the first meeting, but we will post it on the website and advertise around campus. Mr. Baena will be advising for our club. Meetings will be held in room G-4 after school. Meeting days will alternate between Monday and Wednesday. More info on that soon.
Today we will submit our club paperwork. If approved, we will move into the final stages of establishing the club. If our club is accepted, you can expect our first meeting to be sometime towards the end of October or early November.

Pacificon 2025 Recap
Over the weekend, three club officers, Josh, Lucas and Kole attended Pacificon 2025 at the San Ramon Marriott. At the convention, we met many interesting people and participated in different radio activities. On Saturday, we started the day off with a fox hunt set up by Brian KA6ZED. We also walked around to check out booths and visited the LARK booth where we met the advisor for a high school amateur radio club in Brentwood. The ARRL had a Youth Rally we attended which involved taking a group picture with other young people interested in ham radio.

Then some ARRL people came by and brought us to KB5FHK’s van with a couple other hams to talk over a satellite. Unfortunately, due to tree coverage we did not successfully use the satellite so instead the ARRL people brought us to learn morse code. After learning morse code for 30 minutes, they brought us back outside and we spoke over the ISS. Although our transmission window was brief, we managed to contact another ham in Arizona using the ISS.

There was also a special event station setup where Lucas and I got to try talking on 40m and 10m FT8. At the parachute mobile booth, you could contact skydivers as they jump and win a prize if you contact all three skydivers. Kole won a Meshtastic device from this booth. The San Ramon Emergency Services showed off their new communications vehicle. We stopped in to learn about how their mobile communications vehicle works.
We attended on Sunday also to participate in the prize fox hunt but did not win any of the prizes but thanks to KK6ES, he donated his prize to our club. We can’t thank you enough for that and that will greatly help our club especially in the beginning before we get funding. 🙂
This was just a glimpse of all of the fun to be had at Pacificon. We can’t wait to attend next year and can’t emphasize enough how much we appreciate how supportive everyone was. We learned a lot about radio and picked up many ideas for the club along the way. Thank you Pacificon for making our weekend amazing!

Josh, KO6KRK
